The Story

The music came first

Before Nejatava had a name, the songs were already there.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the music was being recorded, shared online, and performed live. The years brought new tools, new voices, and new ways to give those songs life.

Today, Nejatava brings worship, gospel, soul, electronic music, and rap into the same space. Different voices and different rhythms, rooted in grace, perseverance, and the pursuit of God.

Nejatava

The name combines the Persian word nejat, meaning salvation, rescue, or deliverance, with ava, meaning voice or sound.

The tools behind the music

Some of the music behind Nejatava survives in old recordings, video, photographs, and the hardware used to make it. The archive is a place for those pieces of the story as they are recovered.

The hardware below was used at different points across the broader writing and recording period. Not every instrument was used on every song.

Early setup

Roland MC-303 and Korg M1

One early setup connected the Korg M1 to the Roland MC-303 by MIDI, using the larger M1 keyboard to control the MC-303.

Groovebox and SequencerAround 2000

Roland MC-303 Groovebox

Used with the Korg M1 in an early setup. The M1 could control the MC-303 over MIDI, providing a larger keyboard while working with the groovebox.

Keyboard and WorkstationAround 2000

Korg M1

Used as both an instrument and a MIDI controller in the early setup with the MC-303.

Sampler and SequencerOther Early Recordings

Akai MPC2000

The Akai MPC2000 was used on a separate group of older recordings. Those songs are not part of In the Key of Holiness or Last Words & Spiritual Warfare and are not currently part of the Nejatava release catalog.
